Services
Individual
Individual counseling is focused on the individual’s near, or long-term concerns listed or described in the symptom checklist gathered during the initial visit. Together we discuss the checklist as a way to create individualized treatment plans. Individual counseling may cover career counseling, grief after a loss of any kind, or performance issues in the workplace to prevent these issues from escalating. A few approaches we offer are:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy
- Dialectical behavior therapy
- Person centered approaches
- Mindfulness & meditation
- Personalized wellness dimensions
- SMART goal development
- Motivational interviewing
- Trauma focused – Cognitive behavioral therapy
- Perinatal mental health therapy
We focus on creating a teamwork relationship that fosters trust and personal growth along with personal accountability.
Couples & family
Family counseling is focused on partner dynamics, immediate and near future concerns. An issue that affects couples or family, such as disease, death, or simply people not getting along; may all warrant couples or family counseling. Here’s a listing of relationship skills and knowledge areas that help contribute to the success and endurance of relationships:
- Compatibility
- Communication styles
- Short to long term goals
- Expectations & standards
- Conflict resolution
- Behavioral modification
We also provide pre-marital counseling, blended and foster family inclusion strategies, postpartum depression, and mental health issues related to infertility.
Children & Teens
Children and teens often experience the same mental and emotional issues as adults; including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and grief. Symptoms of these disorders may manifest themselves differently in children. We take the same whole person approach with our children and teens as we do with our adult clients, however we tailor our modalities to fit the age of the client. Here are a few goals of child and teen counseling:
- Build self esteem & confidence
- Improve communication skills
- Strategies to cope with divorce
- Dealing with bullying
- Self-harm remediation
- Behavior & anger management
- Breathing techniques
- Progressive muscle relaxation
- Attachment & relationship enhancement
- Creative problem solving
- Self expression
One modality specific to our younger client is play therapy. Play is your child’s most natural form of expression. This breaks down barriers giving our counselors a view into your child’s concern that they often have a hard time expressing verbally. We have rooms dedicated to play therapy and now offer the full line of social emotional learning tools called the Worry Woo.
dialectical behavior therapy
“DBT is not about getting rid of emotions, but rather about learning how to ride the waves of emotions without getting swept away” Unknown
DBT combines elements of cognitive behavioral therapy with concepts from Eastern mindfulness practices. DBT focuses on teaching individuals’ skills to manage their emotions, improve their relationships, and develop a sense of self-acceptance. The therapy emphasizes the balance between acceptance and change, and help individuals develop strategies to regulate their emotions, manage distress, and effectively communicate their needs.
The four core principals of DBT are:
- Mindfulness
- Distress tolerance
- Emotion regulation skills
- Interpersonal effectiveness
Embarking on a journey through Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is akin to navigating the vast and ever-changing ocean of emotions.
